A trend in design and interior decoration, geometric prints are used in various rooms (from living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and even bedrooms) and elements (including walls, fabrics, rugs, coatings, decorative objects, curtains, tiles, upholstery, bedding, furniture, among others).

Easily combined with other prints, when they go beyond the basic shapes, they create personalized and unique environments, requiring care only so that they do not result in overloaded spaces, and it is necessary to consider the architecture of the environments in which they will be applied, harmonizing with the shape of their doors, windows and other areas.

It is interesting that the geometric prints are closed as sets of composition, that is, neutral tones mixed with visual attraction points of strong colors in furniture and other objects.

For supplementary information emphasizing geometric decorative objects, read on how to make the house bolder by using geometric shapes in the decoration.

How to combine geometric prints in the decor

Architect Daniella Janel emphasizes that geometric prints can be used together, with several prints in monochromatic tones or the same in different tones. “A good way to start combining them is in loose decorative items such as pillows, pictures, bed linen, etc.,” he adds.

As for the shapes, “the prisms give a futuristic touch and in different colors they modernize the spaces in which they are applied. The Scandinavian pattern is presented with touches of more neutral colors and gives a more basic and minimalist style. The circles bring a retro and romantic feel while the chevron, also known as zigzag, provides a feeling of amplitude and dynamism to the environments”.

The architect also points out that “the stripe print is universal and matches most of the others, being able to enlarge or increase the environments when used on the walls. The perfect balance can be found when we use the same color tones, preferably neutral with one or the other prominent”.

The choice of colors is judicious, preventing the environment from getting too much information. A good tip is to bring the same tone of the wall to the predominant prints, “the best way to choose a print is to work with its solid colors” comments Daniella Janel.

Gray is always welcome and welcomes most colors. The architect also indicates the use of the color circle as a possibility for various combinations, “for more extravagant combinations, bet on the complementary colors red, pink, orange or the opposite ones, such as blue and orange or purple and yellow, but for those who still feel insecure in combining the best option is to choose lighter and neutral tones”.

As details, they also promote big changes, bet on patterns that print furniture, decorative objects, and pillows, among others. If you only use a geometric object in the decoration, it must be striking enough for the composition of the environment to play a supporting role. “For neutral furniture, invest in colorful geometric prints, applied to rugs, pillows, wallpaper and even curtains”, explains the architect.

The rugs make the environments cozier, not requiring a huge rug with geometric prints for an interesting composition. When it is the main piece of decoration, with prints and striking colors, a more neutral environment is requested, with details that harmonize with its colors, avoiding confusing spaces. Smaller rugs, which are not considered as main pieces, usually have more discreet and neutral colors and shapes so that you can bet on other geometric decorative objects.

Curtains with geometric prints create sophisticated lines and a continuous rhythm for the environment, while accessories come as a wildcard for those who don’t want drastic changes, but like geometrics. Stools, lamps, puffs, pillows, among others, can be combined with more neutral elements, not weighing on the decor and at the same time providing an inspiring environment.

For bedrooms, bet on bed sets with colorful geometric prints, making the environment more fun and cozy. In the kitchen, geometric prints can be applied to make the environment more attractive and inviting, so bet on tiles for the composition of mosaics, on geometric prints on the fabric for curtains and also on tablecloths. See below for more details:

Wallpapers are also used as a decoration with hydraulic tiles, because they are more versatile and practical in their application. The furniture also gained prominence with its straight shapes, but also rounded as in the case of the table. Pay attention only to the amount of geometry applied in the same environment, the wooden floor with equally geometric designs overloaded the decoration a little.

A geometric decoration can also be soft depending on the chosen color palette and shapes. For a relaxing environment such as a bedroom, it is interesting to apply colors and more neutral decorative objects that provide greater coziness and a feeling of rest. Bet on furniture with straighter and cleaner lines, as well as rugs, pillows and bedding with geometrical patterns in softer tones.

Choosing a base color simplifies and facilitates the creation of a balanced decoration for the environment. For this dining room, the colors of the hydraulic tile in a geometric pattern applied as a floor were chosen for the composition of the rest of the decoration. The rectangular cabinets bring white, the geometric chairs use gray, while the concave lamp uses black, harmonizing well with the rustic wood of part of the furniture.

In addition to the mix of prints present on the pillows and rug in the living room, the use of complementary colors brought even more emphasis to the environment. Yellow and blue served as a contrast to the gray and white predominant in the furniture and walls, bringing joy to the space.

So that the environment does not become overloaded, it is interesting that, in places where the floor is printed, the rest of the decoration is more neutral. The checkered floor was well harmonized with the rustic wood furniture and a more earthy tone. The wall with paintings complemented the decoration, modernizing the environment.

Geometric prints on the walls

Walls with textured coatings require few decorative items, because the highlight is on the wall itself with its protrusions and recesses, as is the case with the castellated.

The wallpapers are versatile and offer several color options and geometric prints that bring liveliness to the environments, being ideal for almost any space. If the chosen wallpaper is flashier, the rest of the environment should be more neutral, and its application is not recommended on all walls, but on just one of them, enough to brighten the environment. “Applying the print on a wall in the room where you have less visibility is a good tip for not getting seasick. The walls at the head and behind the sofa are good options for receiving the print” recommends Daniella Janel.

For environments with accumulation of moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms, tiles and coatings are the most recommended for their good durability and ease of maintenance, being found in the most different colors and designs. “The top of the kitchen countertop also needs special attention. It can be made with geometric coatings, coatings with printed prints or even vinyl adhesives, which are easy to install” emphasizes the architect. Check out ideas for geometric prints used on walls below:
